Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

The hardest and bravest step anyone can take is to reach out and ask for help. I am passionate about helping individuals and families overcome any challenge and move toward positive change. It is important for me to create a nonjudgmental and sensitive environment for each of my clients.
My philosophy stems from the premise that every individual, couple, and family has strengths and capabilities that can be developed to help them attain and sustain a healthier lifestyle. I take a collaborative approach to therapy and my services are tailored to meet the unique needs of each client. I strive to maintain a safe and empathic environment where the client is the expert and I understand the importance of collaborating with family members and professionals involved in the lives of those with whom I work. Treatment plans and goals are identified collaboratively by myself and each client to attain the desired outcome and successfully complete treatment. Every client is treated with courtesy, consideration, respect, and with the recognition of every person's dignity, individuality, and the right to privacy.

I have extensive experience in child and adolescent counseling with the use of Play Therapy techniques, parent training/coaching, and foster families.  My primary approach in couples sessions is Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) techniques. EFT is empirically supported and can help people address attachment-related insecurities and learn how to interact with their romantic partners in more loving, responsive, and emotionally connected ways, which can result in a more secure attachment.

It is my hope and honor that I might be the right person to help you or a loved one; or assist in ensuring the best therapeutic relationship is attained.

I believe that the therapy process serves to empower clients to discover and work towards a greater well-being. My role as a therapist is to accompany clients on this journey in a way that allows them to safely explore what works for them best. I place my clients’ knowledge and understanding of their own lives first, and I wish to work through their own framework.

I have experience working with children, adolescents, couples, and families. I seek to help clients to discover the growth that can emerge through the resolution of their conflicts. I have also worked with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, and other life difficulties.  I am especially passionate about working with couples (and individuals) in relationship struggles.

My focus is in Collaborative Therapy, but I am also trained in Narrative Therapy and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. I aim to honor my clients’ perspectives and their beliefs in the work that I do. I emphasize understanding my clients and creating a space in which they feel respected and encouraged to move forward in their lives.

I would welcome an opportunity to work with you. Feel free to call or email me to get started. I offer weekend and evening sessions.

Rebecca specializes in working with families going through divorce, co-parenting, and parental alienation. Rebecca has had training in mediation from the University of Houston Law Center and in addition, specific training for couples divorcing needing child custody mediation and in negotiating parenting plans that are best for the children based on their developmental needs.  Rebecca currently serves as a mediator through the Harris County Dispute Resolution Center for Judge Louie Ditta Harris County Justice of the Peace Court; Precinct 8.

She is also one of only 17 therapists within the United States trained in Attachment-Based Parental Alienation (AB-PA) by Psychologist Dr. Craig Childress.  The pioneered AB-PA pilot program within Harris County was created by Children 4 Tomorrow of Houston, to help identify and ameliorate cross-generational coalition within families.

The foundation of her therapeutic approach is based on the idea that people are worthy of achieving a greater potential, regardless of what their surrounding environment or circumstances are or may have been.  She is passionate about connecting with people and helping them to achieve healthy family boundaries.  She specializes in entire family and couple relationship patterns. Her approach toward relationships is with compassion for whatever family dynamic you are in or have come from in your childhood. She will explore your life together to understand the areas that may need some help or just a little improvement. She operates from a holistic, systemic perspective in viewing entire relationship systems.  Her goal during each session is to achieve an empathic and respectful connection with her clients.  Each session will be very individualized, using various psychological therapeutic approaches such as the Gottman Method based on 40+ years of couples research in what makes marriages succeed or fail, Family Systems Theory, and Narrative Therapy.

She is here to help you talk through your personal, private issues in a safe, accepting, supportive, comfortable, and collaborative environment. Her goal is to help clients understand their emotions and how their own individual perspectives and past may contribute in whether their relationships either work or fail. Her approach is to help clients identify patterns of communication that can lead to core issues or problems within their relationships. She assists each client in developing new strategies to achieve clarification and honesty within themselves. She specializes in family and divorce mediationchild and adolescent therapy, couples therapy, premarital or marriage counseling, divorce counseling, parenting and co-parenting counseling, elder counseling, and always as a priority - family therapy.

For couples sessions, she follows the empirically based Gottman Method which encompasses 40 years of research on couples and marriage. She help couples in slowing down their interactions of communication to reveal deeper intimacy. Her experience includes working with couples, children, adolescents, elders, and families.

The length of her therapy together with you will be determined by your specific needs and goals. In the course of her work together, you will establish points at which to evaluate your satisfaction and progress.

In addition to being a prominent relationship therapist, Rebecca has a unique extensive 19 year career background working at NASA\Johnson Space Center as a flight controller in the Mission Control Center. She has also presented extensive research specifically on topics such as abuse and autism at National Conferences and to general audiences speaking on the topics of marriage and family relationships.  She has particularly worked with children through the Brazoria County Alliance for Children in Pearland and Angleton, couples and families at The Center for Couples and Families as well as at The Center for Relationship Wellness in Friendswood.

She provides counseling, family and divorce mediation for the League City, Dickinson, Friendswood, Webster, South Shore, Clear Lake, NASA, Kemah, and Seabrook surrounding areas.  She would be honored to help you work through your most private issues either through alternative dispute resolution (adr) mediation or in therapy.
