Support Group Counseling can provide a positive setting for individuals to come together through universality of issues; receiving support and catharsis in a group setting. Support group settings are different than individual sessions with a therapist in that you attend each week with familiar people who share similar struggles. You begin to recognize that you are not alone and can actually help someone else by talking about your own experiences. The benefits of working alongside others include learning from their experience and teaching them from your experience, and strengthening commitment to your goals while helping others do the same by getting and giving encouragement and feedback.
Therapy support groups encourage peer interaction, provide a sense of belonging, creates shared experiences, as well as allows for communication and expression of feelings.
